Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games globally and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
