Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with results like these.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
