Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
