According to recent claims from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is allegedly readying a clemency request for consideration by the presidential administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Federal Prison

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a source provided information indicating Maxwell is working on the clemency petition. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, stated in a official statement that the facility's chief was assisting the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for executive mercy.

Specific details of the clemency request remain unclear, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Special Accommodations

The representative claims that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her cell, and the supervisor has individually organized private meetings for Maxwell and her visitors.

The visits reportedly involve a designated private space for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her guests.

Maxwell’s visitors were also allowed to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the security risk and chance of unmonitored communications.

Reportedly on one occasion, when communications failed for other inmates, she was given specific instructions about who she should tell her contacts to contact and how personnel would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she “essentially used” the warden as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The statement states that those writing to her would send files directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to the inmate, for her to examine and change and return them to the official to digitize and send to the original sender.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Further perks allegedly granted to her include time to “play with” a service dog puppy – a perk typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel did not immediately respond to a inquiry regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “will not discuss” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson noted.

Recent Background

Recently, it was reported that she told friends and family in emails from prison that she was more content at the Texas facility than her former location.

In August, she was moved from a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida to the minimum-security camp in the state, where most inmates are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

This move, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as the President's personal lawyer.

That interview came as the administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid intense speculation around the President's own connections to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found dead in a New York jail in that year while facing trial on sex-trafficking charges.

Lawmaker Reactions

Through the statement, Raskin also revealed that he had dispatched a communication to the President, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and called on the chief executive to reject the clemency appeal.

“You should not grant any form of clemency to this convicted and unrepentant sex offender,” the representative stated in the letter. “Your Administration should not be providing her with room service, with puppies to play with, with government agents waiting on her every need, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that the official attend a public congressional hearing to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had instructed him or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in prison, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to Trump or his attorneys.

The representative requested for a response to the inquiries by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court declined to hear an petition from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
