Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time coach Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents the player's initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after spring of that year.
Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the elite level was over.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the final five points to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.
The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
