Cancellieri Displays Flashing Moments of Genius in Positive Aspect for Unstable Lazio
The atmosphere at Lazio's home ground was anything but joyful this past Saturday. Lazio were trailing against Torino, a side that had allowed ten goals while managing only two goals in their last five league matches. Ultras from the Curva Nord were concluding their most recent demonstration in a long-running conflict with chairman Claudio Lotito.
This Year's Efforts Coming Unstitched?
Was Lazio's season unraveling, or was there ever a binding element holding it together to start with? The club brought back Maurizio Sarri as head coach this summer, before he admitted that the club had failed to disclose a registration embargo they were about to receive for fiscal problems. Rumours that he might quit were without basis, but he stated that Lotito had "swindled" him.
Lazio were just as chaotic on the pitch as they were off it, overcoming Verona 4-0 and Genoa 3-0 but losing the remaining initial five matches, which included the capital clash. At any given moment, observers have struggled to determine if they're getting better or collapsing.
Cancellieri's Unexpected Comeback
One individual kept smiling throughout. Matteo Cancellieri was not even supposed to remain with Lazio this season. He was on last season with Parma on loan and, early this summer, his parent club were attempting to extend his stay for another season. The signing restriction led to a change of plans. Lazio could not afford to weaken their team lacking backup options.
He signed in the first place under Sarri's first spell, then a 20-year-old graduate of Verona's academy. He made 20 Serie A appearances with the club in that campaign, the vast majority of those from the bench. The ex- sporting director, Igli Tare, whose tenure ended at the end of that season, later stated Sarri of "informing all Cancellieri would be a star but then not selecting him."
Uncovering His Natural Fit
Perhaps the manager was continuing to attempt to work out the nature of his skill set. Labeled as a wide forward on arrival, Cancellieri yet was deployed for the majority of that term as an ineffective backup to Ciro Immobile as center forward. In 63 appearances while playing for Empoli and Parma during recent campaigns, he netted seven goals. Shoehorn
